What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy applies our understanding of how behaviors work to real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. ABA therapy programs can help increase language and communication skills, and decrease undesired behaviors.

Used as a scientific approach to understanding different behavior, ABA is a method of therapy used to improve or change specific behaviors. In simple terms, ABA changes the environment in order to change the behavior. It's not just used to correct unwanted behavior. It is used to shape behaviors that have social significance in life including learning, speaking, communicating and relationships.

Behavioral Health Care and screenings for children and families can help provide access to effective treatment. ABA can help others understand the needs of children from a different perspective and to start making changes in their spheres of influence.
